Whorology

Doris Spears & W.H.O.R.E.4WAR the Band

A bit of Blues, a bit of Spoken Word, a bit of Jazz, irresistibly auralicious!

Whorology: Study of the exploitation of sex, talent, or skills for barter or bread (money) with ethical bounds defined by the respondents of the study or boundaries assigned to them from without by those who may also control the flow of their money and their physical engagement. In Whorology six themes rippled through the surface in these musical offerings, that I hope you enjoy: Love, Sex, Commerce, Misogyny, Spirituality, and Redemption. To that end women must question why they confuse themselves with the women they become in wigs and appliances with the women they are without them; because the men will be as confused as the women themselves; and then blame the men for the mutual confusion. Everyone appreciates a bit of pussy occasionally. Just keep it clean...after each use. Don't decorate it. It doesn't need it. Speaking of appetites: Keep your ass tight. Keep your ass cheeks tighter. Keep your sphincter tightest. Just sayin. The wind does not "owe" the sky its caresses, the sun does not "owe" plants its warmth, the earth, not you its temple; and a woman "owes" you nothing by birthing you; it's cold blooded...but these mystical processes have the greatest potential to empower us to learn to respect each other when we observe around us, the pitiful alternative. And Recall: An unwilling victim's character in sex, whatever the form, is as destroyed as the physical body of a person at an execution. Rape is the real original sin. D. Spears

9 Fold Muse--Blues For Grown Folks

Doris Spears

The blues legend of the new millenium

Doris Spears of 9 Fold Muse could easily be the musical daughter of a Blues royalty merger between Billie Holiday and Muddy Waters. Her singing and songwriting is honest, raw, searing and soulful. Watching and listening to her ascend the same heights and beyond is a rare and welcome treat.

The Duchess

Doris Spears

Doris Spears smoothe rich voice expresses gentle compassion as well as a sultry earthiness. No matter what style delivery, her music is suffused with her obvious enjoyment and a contagious desire to connect with her audience.

Vocalist Doris Spears comes on like gangbusters with "Evil Gal Blues", then switches gears becoming an even-tempered chanteuse. Her smooth ballad singing hides the textures her opening tune exposes and makes you yearn for more Blues. But she cranks it up again on "Stormy Weather", and a sultry "Day by Day". Sunsh Stein Jazztimes Mag 1999

"Doris Spears is the name. Remember it. Once you hear her, you won't forget the sound, and her powerful, but warm testament of Blues, ballads and whatever else she's more than qualified to musically deliver". Bob Perkins WRTI Jazz Radio/Philadelphia Observer 2000

"Jazz Duchess Spears' honed her vocal skills with some of the brightest legends in Jazz starting with Lionel Hampton and later, on to Houston Person, Jack MacDuff, Jimmy McGriff, Charles Earland, Clark Terry, Abby Lincoln, Von Freeman, Ted Curson and others, all a testament to the industry's recognition of her talent". Trenton Times 1997

"Doris Spears and a stiff drink" response to a Philadelphia Inquirer nitelife reporter's question to a Zanzibar Blue jazz patron about whose music makes a great preface to his evening. Philadelphia Inquirer 1999

Doris Spears-The Duchess:Jazz & Juke Joints

doris spears

Swingin' Jazzy Blues

Doris Spears-Bio Since appearing on local TV shows as a young girl to tours of Europe and the Mediterranean, the smooth, intoxicating, transforming voice of Doris Spears continues to win the heart of many a music enthusiast. Having forged her instrument with iconic players on a continuum from Jazz: Lionel Hampton and Von Freeman, to Blues: Lefty Bates Delta Blues Band, and Joe Zook’s Blues Deluxe, the singer credits these affiliations as priceless in the grass roots foundation, and professionalism that she has acquired in her evolution; both as a musician, and as a lyricist. Her shows, whether in a small intimate room, or a stadium are always described as “fun, engaging, uplifting. “At my performances” she says, “I am not happy until I see three things at work: a tapping foot, a soulful sway, and the utter joy in the air that only dynamic music has the power to evoke.” With three highly praised CD’s to her credit, “The Duchess” recorded with legendary guitarist Paul Weeden Sr. in Oslo Norway, and “9 Fold Muse-Blues for Grown Folks,” Doris exemplifies the ease and richness with which she expresses and builds upon the diverse Jazz/Blues Tradition. However, it is “Doris Spears-The Duchess: Jazz & Juke Joints” her most recent release that is closest to the quintessential Doris Spears; not only for sheer vocal beauty but as an interpreter/story teller of songs of the first order. The Singer currently lives in Trenton NJ. She is the Mother of Shahran Spears, an Education Administrator in the Midwest, and Aries Spears, an Actor and Comedian living in California.
